May - Raimon Land PC Classic
International Regatta 2008
by Richard van den Heuvel
This year the PC Classic
returned to the original format and was fully celebrated at Varuna.
The wellknown sponsors of sailing, Raimon Land, made sure nothing
was missing. One Trimaran, 14 Catamarans, 13 Lasers and 6 Optimists
prepared for the regatta that was sailed in the afternoon of a
splendid day. Reasonable wind and a weak tide made for a pleasant
afternoon of sailing. Two races back-to-back kept the sailors
busy till 5 PM. This was followed by plenty of beer and wine to
quench the thirsty sailors before they could enjoy an excellent
buffet dinner, all provided by the sponsor. In the course of the
evening the prizes were presented to many of the participants.

& 27 April - Admirals Cup 2008
by Richard van den Heuvel
Some 91 youngsters from
JSST, Ocean Marina and Varuna gathered on Saturday morning to
compete in the annual Admirals Cup regatta. A moderate wind from
the North was present at 11 AM when the first warning signal of
the day went up. After the first race there was a lunch break.
During this time a thunderstorm developped, followed by almost
no wind. Combined with a strong tide this meant the end of the
day's racing. Sunday morning the start was earlier. After 2 races
dark clouds in the distance made the Race Officers decide to skip
the lunch break and continue with 2 more races. Then it was time
to stop, but with a total of 5 races one discard was allowed.
The results giving the first 10 finishers and RVYC kids follow:

& 20 April - Hobie National Championships 2008
by Richard van den Heuvel
Sailing conditions were
perfect for Hobiecats this weekend. According to a participant
from New Zealand he had not sailed with such good wind in 5 years.
On Saturday 4 races were sailed back-to-back, on Sunday there
was a lunch break after the second race. During the first race
on Saturday a few Hobie 16 sailors were misled by the rubber dinghy
setting a new windward mark because of a large windshift. For
the remainder of the regatta all went smoothly. The results were

&029 March - Speakerbus
Challenge 2008
by Richard van den Heuvel
Excellent wind and weather
and plenty of participants were a good start to this regatta sponsored
by Speakerbus. Free beer, wine and snacks at the Beach Bar on
Saturday evening completed the first day. Sunday morning again
the same weather pattern saw a long distance race for the cats
and also a good race for the Lasers. The Optimists had their own
races directed by Oad. Around 3 in the afternoon it was prizegiving
for the top scorers. The results were as follows:
